TUV Certificates and Approvals for Automotive Parts

On this page we explain the most important certificates, approvals and documents that may accompany styling and tuning parts. The information primarily refers to Germany. Other countries may apply different rules. Please always check the regulations in your country and the conditions stated in the respective document.

Important: The exact content of the document is more important than its title. In particular, KBA Component Type Approvals (TTG) should be checked to determine whether an inspection is required or whether the part can be used without registration.

• ABE / KBA Approval - Registration Free

  An ABE (General Operating Permit) or equivalent KBA approval is usually the most customer-friendly option. If all conditions are met, registration is generally not required. The document should be carried in the vehicle.

• KBA Component Type Approval (TTG) - Registration Free

  The KBA Component Type Approval (TTG) is the new national approval system for vehicle parts. If the document states that no inspection under §19(3) StVZO is required, the part can generally be used without registration, provided all conditions are fulfilled.

• TUV Component Type Approval Report (Teilegutachten)

  The traditional TUV Component Type Approval Report was the standard for many tuning and styling parts. Registration or inspection is generally required. New Teilegutachten have been replaced by the KBA Component Type Approval (TTG).

• KBA Component Type Approval (TTG)

  The KBA Component Type Approval (TTG) replaces the traditional Teilegutachten for new approvals. Depending on the document and conditions, inspection or registration may still be required. Always check the specific TTG document.

• Manufacturer Declaration with TUV Material Certificate (Materialgutachten)

  This document contains information from the manufacturer together with material certification. It is usually used as a basis for an individual approval. The final decision rests with the inspection engineer.

• TUV Material Certificate (Materialgutachten)

  A TUV Material Certificate mainly confirms material properties. It is not a complete approval for a specific vehicle. An individual approval is generally required.

• TUV / GTU Approval Test Report (Prufbericht)

  A test report from TUV, GTU or a similar technical organization may provide a stronger technical basis than a material certificate. If issued for individual approval purposes, an individual approval is generally required.

• Various Certificates

  Body kits and sets may contain components covered by different documents. Please review the information for each component individually.

• Approval Not Required

  For some products, a separate approval is generally not required, for example certain replacement parts or non-approval-relevant accessories. This always depends on the vehicle, intended use and local regulations.

• ECE / E-Mark Approval

  ECE / E-Mark approval is an internationally recognized approval system used for specific vehicle components. Products carrying a valid E-Mark have been tested according to applicable ECE regulations and may generally be used in many European countries without requiring additional national approval, provided they are installed and used in accordance with the approval conditions. Always check the exact scope and limitations of the approval, as E-Mark certification usually applies only to specific functions or applications of a product.

  If a certificate is listed as not available, no corresponding document is available to us for that product.
